The (ITU) International Telecommunication Union defined the third generation (3G) of mobile telephony standards – IMT-2000 – to facilitate growth, increase bandwidth, and support more diverse applications. For example, GSM (the current most popular cellular phone standard) could deliver not only voice, but also circuit-switched data at download speeds up to 14.4 kbps. But to support mobile multimedia applications, 3G had to deliver packet-switched data with better spectral efficiency, at far greater speeds.

3G networks have potential transfer speeds of up to 3 Mbps (about 15 seconds to download a 3-minute MP3 song). For comparison, the fastest 2G phones can achieve up to 144Kbps (about 8 minutes to download a 3-minute song). 3G's high data rates are ideal for downloading information from the Internet and sending and receiving large, multimedia files. 3G phones are like mini-laptops and can accommodate broadband applications like video conferencing, receiving streaming video from the Web, sending and receiving faxes and instantly downloading e-mail messages with attachments. 

3G technology is the latest in mobile communications. 3G stands for "third generation" -- this makes analog cellular technology generation one and digital/PCS generation two. 3G technology is intended for the true multimedia cell phone -- typically called smartphones -- and features increased bandwidth and transfer rates to accommodate Web-based applications and phone-based audio and video files. 

Apple iPhone 3G is the first iPhone with 3G network support, making it a lot faster in internet browsing and applications downloading compared to the first generation iPhone that only supports slower GPRS data network. Besides that, Apple also adds GPS navigation system, third-party software installation support, corporate email support (POP3 / SMTP / IMAP / Exchange), sync, and VPN features. The iPhone 3G also all the features and specifications that the first generation iPhone has, including 3.5-inch multi-touch LCD screen, Safari browser that supports full internet browsing with tabs, iPod digital music player, 2.0-megapixel digital camera, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.


I am a big fan of the Apple iPhone and have been enjoying everything about it.  Yes, it does have a few bugs here and there, but the pros definitely outweigh the cons. Usually people ask me, how to make a free iphone ringtone?

It`s easy!:
I use the iTunes to convert MP3 to AAC files and change the extension from .m4a to .m4r to use M4R files as your iphone ringtones:

First - Launch iTunes 8 and find the song you'd like to turn in to a ringtone. 

Second - Right click on the selected song and select "Get Info", click the "Options" tab and Check both the “Start Time” and "End Time" check boxes select the range from 20-30 seconds or less and click "OK".  

Third - Right clcik in the selected song and select "Create ACC Version". A duplicate copy of your song will appear in the Itunes the only difference is Time Column is shorter than the original one.

Fourth - Copy or drag the duplicate song which has a shorter time in your desk top or your ringtones folder. The extension of your song is "title-of-the-song.m4a" change this extension to "title-of-the-song.m4r" and double click the song this will automatically play your ringtones and will add to your itunes Ringtones folder.

Fifth - Connect your Iphone to your computer and then run your sync, this will automatically go to your ringtones.

Done! Your ringtone will work now at your iphone!
